I did not find it to be more difficult for my children to accept the new relationship that was a same sex relationship; it was a woman. I didn't feel like i was replacing their father. Bringing another woman into the relationship, they didn't feel like their father was as threatened. Partly because their father was accepting and we all became friends. He played a big part in that and my new relationship never tried to be their new parent. I think that helped.

Gioconda Aviles, 45, is a mother of six: Four boys, ages 23, 21,19, and 17 from her first marriage, and twin girls, ages 2 ½, from her second. She had her first child at 22 and her last two at 42.
