Transcription:
I'm Lauren Sandler. I wrote a book called One and Only: The Freedom of Having an Only Child and the Joy of Being One. I know something about both. I'm an only child with an only child myself. I'm also a journalist. And I wanted to investigate the truth behind the mythology about only children and also really think about what it meant for parents to have one child.
Because I have one child I believe that I have a lot of freedom to travel, and have dinners out, and live an adventurous life, which is really the life that I wanted to live. I'm someone who yearns for a lot of freedom and experience. And for me, including a child in that journey has been a beautiful thing. But I've also really wanted to do it very much on my own terms. And I have found that having an only child is a great way to do that.
