I think the reason for a divorce whether you tell your child or not should depend on the reason for the divorce. For example if there is divorce based on sexual orientation, I think the child should know that one of his or her parents is gay and that there is nothing to hide from the child, that there's nothing to be ashamed of, that this is who the parent is and it doesn't change the relationship between the parent and the child. So I think in that case, it's better to tell your child. But in terms of infidelity, I think that that sense of betrayal is between the parents and not between the parent and the child. So I think it's better the actually keep it from the child, because it can negatively impact the relationship that that child has with that parent who had the affair. And it's better to protect your children from things like that so that the relationship isn't negatively impacted.
