There are so many different ways you can adopt, and the reason why we chose open adoption and finding a birth mother who was placing her baby for adoption is because Bill and I really wanted to experience having an infant. And we got to be in the birthing room when Simone was born, and Bill and I were the only people who cared for her in her first hours and days of life. And plus, that's something that we wanted to experience not being able to conceive naturally. So we're going to adopt more children and I'm not sure what process we'll take for that, but for this adoption, that's why we chose open adoption.

Scout graduated from Penn State University in 1996. He then went on to exchange vows with his longtime partner, Bill Horn, on May 23, 2009. Scout's longtime friend Tori Spelling became an ordained minister to officiate his commitment ceremony to Bill Horn. Scout and Bill adopted a daughter, Simone Lynn Masterson-Horn. Simone was born in June 2010. Scout is a surrogate uncle to Tori Spelling's three children, Liam, Stella and Hattie. Scout and Bill have been featured on the hit series, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood where they are known as "The Guncles".
