In terms of adopting from the United States, a family will want to know that there are three options of adopting a child that is not related to them. One of them is the infant adoption program or the domestic program where a family is matched with a birth mother who is considering an adoption plan for her child. In those cases the family is going to be taking the child home from the hospital. Another option is adopting from the Foster Care System, where children children have been removed from their homes because of some problem, and over a period of time it's been determined that the child is not able to return to the biological family. The family caring for that child, the foster family, will adopt that child and give them a permanent, loving home. The third option is the international adoption program. There are many countries who are available throughout the world with adoption program, China, Columbia, Haiti, a number of countries where families can adopt children from various ages.
