One of the concerns all my parents have is how the medical bills get paid because the medical bills can be a very large expense in an adoption. What I tell my clients and what I have found to be the case is most of these birth mothers are poor and end up qualifying for welfare. And then they are on Medicaid and the state will pay their medical bills. Even if the child is placed for adoption, the state will pay for the birthing cost and the hospital cost of the child. Other times, the child may have private insurance will cover the birth cost. In most cases, the clients are not paying the costs. In some, they are. When they do that, what I do with my clients is I arrange to pay the doctor directly from my office. I will arrange to pay the hospital directly from my office and I will put that off as long as I can because you never know what the mom is going to do. She may keep the child. And so, I will try and defer the payments to as late in the pregnancy or even after birth as possible to make sure the clients are not going to be in a position where they have paid the medical bills and they don´t get the child because that is the worst possible situation.
