Facebook is a part of life today for all kids. I like Facebook. I don’t spend all day on it like my kids do, but everybody has some connection with Facebook and I think it’s important to be friends with your kids on Facebook. I sometimes hear people say, “Oh, my kids don’t friend me. They won’t let me be friends with them on Facebook.” Well, the way I see it if they’re not paying their own rent, their own car and their own tuition, they don’t have a choice. I want to be on Facebook to se their photographs, to see what they’re doing, to see the comments they and their friends make. And it’s important to keep track of what they’re doing and also, I enjoy seeing the things they’re doing. I enjoy looking at their photographs. It’s also very important that you lecture your kids about this cyber-technology today. That when they put a photograph on Facebook, they need to understand that photograph is with them the rest of their lives. They shouldn’t put anything on Facebook that they don’t want their prospective employers to see, deans of admissions in some of the colleges look now on Facebook – so it’s very important to go over with your kids that these dumb, embarrassing photos that they don’t think a lot of now could come back to haunt them later. And so I encourage them to be very careful about what they post on their Facebook sites and other Internet sites.
