It's absolutely essential to take your child's temperament into account as you're evaluating media for your child. Some kids have, you know, really strong sensitivities to certain emotional intensity, for example, you know, in the scene in Finding Nemo, where the mother dies; that scene may be absolutely too much for certain children to tolerate, so we believe that it's really great for parents to not only do their research as they are evaluating media, but also to co-watch alongside their children, so you can see how your child is interpreting the scenes and the emotional intensity of a piece of media. We also really advice parents to talk to their kids as they're watching, you know, pause the movie, pause the game, pause the app, pause the TV show and talk to your kids about how they are viewing the material, what they think about it. We offer conversation starters for every piece of media that we review, that gives props to parents to talk to their kids about how they're taking it and while you're having these conversations, it's a great time to talk to your kids about your own values and how you feel about it and as you're having these conversations, you're imparting your wisdom and your values to your kids.
