Being an internet savvy parent has become the new big parenting challenge. Unfortunately, your children know more about manuevering the internet than the parents. But it is a real concern. Obviously, there are certain protections you can create; but, on the other hand you can't keep a child in a bubble. It's a combination of protection and education. I certainly believe that computers should not be in bedrooms. I think computers should be in an area of the home where anybody can walk by at any time and have a sense of what is going on. That's how I begin. I think with young children, there should be certain parental controls that should be on the internet. But as your child gets older and will be going out into the world and going into other people's homes, I think it is very important that your child be educated about the dangers; particularly, of chat lines, of going online and talking to people that they don't know. I think they should hear stories about this, and ongoing parental education in terms of how to deal with the media.
