Why should you insist on being friends with your child on Facebook? You should insist because if your child is being bullied or is bullying, you want to know about it. Why would you want to know about it? First of all, you may be liable for the conduct of your child if your child is doing things you are not aware of. Even the nicest children can sometimes get involved in the group mentality and do things they would not normally do. The second thing is if there is activity going on that you would want to report if you knew about it, then Facebook is a vehicle which provides you with that information. You can print it out. You can bring it to the school and show them evidence. At that point, if the school district does not take action, then they are liable for negligence and not you for looking the other way.
