When should you talk to your child about sex? There is no magic age that you talk to your child about sex. Nine isn't the age. Ten isn't the age. Each child is different, and each child falls into different places on the maturity ladder. This is an important time for you and your partner to be watching your child and monitoring where they're at, and when you begin to see curiosity about this topic, you have to step into that breach and address it with them. My wife and I chose that she would talk to our daughter and I would speak to our sons, because we thought that speaking to someone of the same sex would be easier for them. And we would go somewhere private and talk about where babies come from and introduce the concept of sex to them. And more importantly, ask them about questions they have, because kids get some pretty crazy ideas about sex from their friends and those need to be dispelled. But more importantly, this initial conversation is not the end of the conversation. It should be the beginning. And you should leave this conversation as an open-ended one, one which you will occassionally revisit with them, and one that they will feel comfortable ultimately coming back and revisiting with you.
