When I learned through my research how dangerous cell phones are to driving, I also got actively involved in the technology out there to reduce cell phone use. So I'm now involved with Aegis Mobility, and they have a product called Fleet Safer that allows you to program your phone. It automatically detects when you're driving, and you can set it up to disallow texting and data searching and all kinds of things that keep your teen safe. Because a teen's response to a ringing phone or text message has been proven to be almost addictive. It's like cocaine. They can't stop to pick it up. So you can affect their behavior. And there are other technologies out there - please look into them - that allow you to have technology to reduce your teen's tendency to use that phone while they're driving.

Timothy SmithAuthor & Teen Driving Expert
Timothy Smith is a healthcare executive living in the Chicago area with his wife and three children. He got involved with teen driving several years ago when a number of teenagers were killed in multiple crashes near his home, virtually all due to driver error. His search for information to help his teens avoid car crashes yielded little of value, so he became a certified driving instructor, got trained and licensed to race cars, took defensive driving courses and ended up writing Crashproof Your Kids: Make Your Teen A Safer, Smarter Driver. He is also Chairman of Aegis Mobility, a software company which has developed technology to manage and reduce cell phone use while driving.
