You know, when I think about all the hardship that I faced and how I eventually turned things around, it ultimately boils down to two things. 1) You have to have the desire to change. 2) You have to have a plan to change.
This can be frustrating as a caring adult or as a parent because when you have a kid, you can be like, man, you have really got to change. And it’s weird because we want them to change more than they want to change. And the truth is you cannot give someone want to.
As much as I want you to change and as much as I see clearly that you need to change, if you don’t want to change, change is not going to happen.
So you’ve got to have the desire. But then secondly you must have a plan. You see, wishful thinking is not a strategy. So just hoping, wishing that some sort of change is going to come about in your life is not going to cut it.
So you need to specifically get with a mentor, a trusted expert, seek out the information to figure out how do I go from A-Z? I understand that I don’t want to stay at A anymore. But what are the 20-something steps in between A and Z? This is where most people’s genuine, earnest desire for change falls apart, because they don’t have a plan. They don’t have a strategy.
Once you have that step by step game plan figured out, then the whole goal is not to focus on the end result. But to get training, education, and accountability around one thing, the next step.
If you accomplish the next step, and then the next step, you’ll look back and change will have occurred.
