There are a number of treatments available for childhood depression. There are a number of studies that look at how effective things are. One of the things we find is effective, is therapy for children. Most children get better when they go to therapy. I think there is something about giving them a safe place to come and talk about how they feel. Once the child does that, they don't feel so lonely in their sadness and depression. I think therapy can be a wonderful thing for a child, a great opportunity. Looking at the different types of therapy, we can find the cognitive behavioral therapy is often a skills based approach to helping the child rather quickly with the issues that they have. In areas of significant depression. they have problems in the areas of getting up and getting to school in the morning, frequently crying. For those types of situations, we should really be considering if that child is a candidate for medication or not. The parent might take the child to their pediatrician or their child psychologist to determine whether or not medication is an option for this child.
