One of the things that I’ve learned from the Seattle Seahawks is that Coach Carroll is really particular about the language that he uses. He’s very thoughtful about the ideas that he’s wanting to cultivate for the people. So language really matters, which is the essence of self talk. So when language is internal, that self talk, when language is outside of ourselves, that’s a way that we can hear self talk from others. So Coach Carroll is very particular about creating an environment that is electric and fun and engaging because we’re trying to do something that is challenging; which is to compete on a regular basis to be our best, for each person to pursue their very best on a regular basis. So this is a combination of old school values, really traditional of old school grittiness, it’s required to grow. Admired with this enthusiasm and love for life to celebrate the arc of expression, grounded in really rich science and the science is the science of psychology of how to speak, how to think, how to be able to manage those things that are 100% under your control. And when you put those two together or those three together; old school values and traditions, grounded and science and enthusiasm in celebration what’s possible, the culture really switches on and that’s the center of high performing culture; is having individuals that are really striving on a regular basis to be the best.
