My son does attend a mainstream public kindergarten. I think it is hugely beneficial to have a high functioning autistic child in a mainstream class. High functioning autistic children are typically imitators. So they will immediately be drawn to behavior both good and bad. You are putting him around typical children who are doing age appropriate things and modeling from them is so, so, so important. I fought really hard to have him in a mainstream class, and he is flourishing.
