We found a great solution to night terrors. Night terrors are when kids are stuck between stages of sleep, they're not awake, they're not dreaming, they're just stuck. So it dawned on my wife, at one point, that this happens about the same time the kids are learning to go to the potty. And what happens when kids wet the bed at night is that they're getting a signal from their bladder that goes up and says, "It's time to wake up", but not quite enough to actually wake them up, so they pee. So she wondered if maybe that's what's happening. They're getting the signal coming to the brain and it get somewhat stuck between sleep stages. So she recommended, with our son who was having night terrors, "Why don't we try taking him to the bathroom?" So he woke up, he was screaming, he didn't recognize us, his eyes were open, we picked him up, took him into the bathroom, he did recognize the toilet and peed. And instantly, it stopped.
So we posted online about it, our experience, and now have heard from thousands and thousands of parents who tried this, and it works remarkably well to instantly stop a night terror without incident. Very cool. Cheryl Greene was the one who figured this out.
