So often in my office I hear that parents are concerned that their children have terrible eating habits, that they only want to eat white foods or carbohydrates. That they won't eat any fruits or they won't eat any vegetables. And I think one way to combat that is to bring your child into the process. Give them responsibility and ownership over the meal planning and the meal preparation. One of the things I like to do is bring the children into the grocery store with you. Give them a task. Tell them to find a vegetable they've never eaten before. And the challenge is for you to come up with a way to prepare it. Let them help you come up with what the meal is. If they've chosen the meal, they're much more likely to actually eat it, because it's been their choice, not what you've dictated to them. It's even better if you have the time to let them help you prepare the meal as well, because again it contributes to that sense of ownership and pride over what's being produced and what's being shared with the whole family to enjoy.
