It makes me so happy when I see a child come into my office with their shirt on backward or with a totally mismatched outfit, because I know that's a family environment where that child was given the confidence, the freedom, the independence to choose what they were wearing all by themselves, and to actually put it on. With time, as children grow older, they realize that the tag goes in the back. They realize what inside out means. They also will begin to realize what matches and what doesn't match. But as a parent, if you empower your child to make those choices and give your child the space to put those clothes on by themselves early on, then you're going to have a child that's ready to go to school in kindergarten that's ready to get dressed all by themselves and feel like they own that responsibility. And then as they get older, their responsibilities will grow and there will be more and more things that they do all by themselves without intervention. That's going to save you time in the long run and raise a child that feels capable.
