Some of the reasons the doctor may put you on bed rest have to do with history of preterm labor, preterm labor, low or high blood pressure, an excessive amount of amniotic fluid, poor fetal growth, hypertension of pregnancy, or if you are not gaining enough weight.
The idea is to put you on bed rest so it minimizes blood flow that could be taken away from the fetus, and it also minimizes the uterus from contracting.
