When one talks about water birthing, I think that many people confuse water laboring and water birth. Water labor, which could either include sitting in a tub during the course of labor or sitting in a shower, is very advantageous for allowing people to get by without major anesthetic. Water birth is delivering in a tub, and some people choose to do that because they think that it is advantageous for the baby and that it is better for the mother. I personally believe that water birthing is not particularly safe. I have seen problems with it, and I'm not particularly an advocate of it.
