Developing responsibility on the part of the child really falls on the role of a parent; are you a good parent or are you a responsible parent? The good parent is always running, interceding, bailing out and directing a child and then the child is going to become very dependent and not able to accept responsibilities independently. However, if you want the child to be an independently functioning unit, then from the time the child is small, you let the child operate for him or her self; that means self-help skills, they dress themselves, they take care of their personal hygiene. That means as they get older, they make decisions, they are able to make their own choices. If they have difficulties or if there are problems or challenges, you ask them what they have thought of first in terms of how they handle the solution, so you start empowering a child to be independently responsible. Responsibility comes because you let the individual handle situations by him or her self. That's how we develop a responsible child.
