When I am trying to get my son to do something to change his habits, I have had the most success when I really involve him in the process. So we have been into making charts and I have him help make the chart. We decide on the goals together, so whether it's read for 10 minutes or 20 minutes, he and I talk about this and decide what a reasonable goal is. And then he also decides on the reward. Recently it was Pokemon cards and something else like that. So he was really motivated because he had helped to plan this whole system out. He was really pleased with himself when he got to mark off the milestones that he had reached along the way and then he picked his prize at the end. So it was all about him and it was as if he set the score , rather than me telling him you have got to read every day, why aren't you reading every day? It was like this chart is posted on the refrigerator and he know what to do and so he is motivated to do it.
