A lot of us have really difficult jobs that take up a lot of our time. And one of the hardest things we face as parents is being there for your kids with this demanding job. And we hear it all the time. You have to spend quality time with your kids. It is absolutely true. But just setting aside certain times is not always the right answer. It is critical for a parent to be listening to their kids. One of the hardest things to do is listen to your kids because often they are reaching out to you. They want your attention and they want some time. And we do not hear it. You have to engage them when you first come into the home at the end of a long day and find out what is happening and keep your eyes and your ears open to hear what they are saying. Because if there is something you need to step into, you need to hear it. So as hard as your job may be, be ready to go home and listen to what your kids are saying about their lives and what is happening with other people.
