It´s definitely possible to safely co-sleep with a child and breastfeed at the same time. There are a lot of misconceptions in the media about what is safe sleeping, but if a mother is sleeping next to a baby, she has instincts. Her hormones are tuned in with her child so that she´s aware of what´s going on. There is definitely physical considerations. You should have a firm mattress. Covers should be kept out of the way. It should be the mother next to the child, not the father. There shouldn´t be lots of fluffy stuff and of course absolutely no drugs or alcohol if you are going to be sleeping next to a baby. But when a mother is aware and alert and baby is healthy, co-sleeping can be done safely.
