The American Academy of Pediatrics on swaddling
The American academy of pediatrics does recommend swaddling as a safe way to keep your baby warm and cozy. After all we know that babies sleep better often when they are bundled up. You just don’t want any loose blankets in bed with them but if you do a tight swaddle, and I usually recommend that parents ask the labour and delivery knows to teach them, they are the best at swaddling babies up into that cute little type burrito. So have them teach you how to swallow baby tightly and it’s perfectly fine to swallow your baby and put them to sleep on their back in a safe sleeping environment. So how long can you swallow your baby for? Well, as long as your baby enjoys it, around four months of age a lot of babies will start breaking out of the swaddle. See you may want to try swaddling them from the arm pits down with their arms out and then taking away the swaddle when they become more mobile. A sleep sack is a great alternative. Your baby can still be warm and cozy, but their arms wont pinned down at their side. So follow your babies lead if they enjoy being bundled up in a swaddle, then it’s perfectly safe and fine.
