Feeling isolated when you’re a new mom is perfectly normal and I’d say that the easiest way to get out of that rut is just to get out of the house. And even if you’re not feeling exceptionally glamorous and like you want to be out of the house, because often, when you do get out of the house as a new mom, people… they will ask you when your baby’s due. Because you still look pregnant. And that’s a lot of people… it happened to me every child. And that makes you not want to leave the house.
So I think that getting out of the house, wherever you go – even if it’s not a mommy and me class immediately or the park, a baby is your prop. People – other new moms – will talk to you. And you won’t believe the friendships that you will strike up with some random person at the store where you buy your bottles or at the market where you buy your formula for you… I can’t tell you how many friends that I’ve seen and they’ll tell me, “You won’t believe we met when our babies were 3 months old, we were both in line at Starbucks. We couldn’t get my stroller unfolded and she helped me.” People will talk to you. New moms gravitate to each other. It’s like having a dog – like dog owners talk to each other. Babies make people want to talk to you.
