So breastfeeding is not easy. And I failed completely with my first child. It was really hard. I felt really judged by a lot of other mothers. And I felt like I failed with the first thing in motherhood.
So with my second child, I said I’m not going to judge myself and I’m not going to let other people judge me. It’s okay. I’m going to try. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. And I did a few things differently.
Number one, I started pumping right away. That was very helpful. My doctor also gave me a prescription for Domperidome that I took for 6 months. Gave me no side effect. Worked out well. You can check with your health care provider.
And the biggest thing I did that made the biggest difference was I co-slept with my baby. And you can do this very safely. I had one pillow, no blanket, big old pajamas in a warm room. I think that nursing through the night increased my breast milk supply. And it also helped me get some sleep, because by then I had another child.
By the time I had my third child, I breast fed him for a long-long-long time. So it is possible to be successful with nursing after it didn’t work out for you the first time.
