- One of the really important aspects when you're caring for a baby is to slow down. Our quick movements can be really overstimulating to babies and, when they're in the middle of grooming, all that attention to their body can translate into an incredible sensory experience. It's really important to slow down, tell them what you're gonna do before you do it. I'm gonna clip your nails, here comes the first one, clip, here comes the second one, clip. For little infants, it's helpful to do nail clipping after a bath, when their nails are soft. For older infants, you can sit them in your lap, have them face outward, and clip the nails as they sit there. Sometimes, singing a song is really helpful, or playing music to help them relax while you're attending to their body. For a bath, it's really helpful to have a very warm room, very warm water, and to tell them what you're gonna do before you do it. I'm gonna put your body in the bath, here comes the soap, here comes the shampoo, now we're gonna rinse. In terms of the bath, you don't need to use soap and shampoo every day. Just water is enough to clean a baby.
