Jeanne Segal, PhD, explains the difference between bonding and attachment, the secure attachment bond, and how they are created with your baby
136
Transcription:
Fathers bond. They create a bonding relationship with their babies in the same ways that mothers do by doing the same things; when you do for, when you take care of, when you change the baby, feed the baby, soothe the baby, do all these different things with the baby. The father indeed feels more connected, more loving, and it's a mutual relationship. If you're talking about the secure attachment bond, you have to understand that that happens with only one person, the person who spends most of their time with the baby. It could be the father, it could be the mother, it could be some other caretaker. But that is a unique relationship with only one person.
