Placement of infant seat and older child's car seat
A lot of second time moms who are expecting their second child are wondering How am I going to fit this new car seat in the vehicle? Do I need to move my toddler or not? The answer that we typically recommend is that if you can't fit your two car seats side by side in the car, you put the infancy behind the passenger and the toddler in the center seat. Which usually means you have to install that convertible toddler seat with a seat belt and not the luges. If they don't fit there then I recommed putting the toddler behind driver and the infant behind the passenger. The main reason is because if you are on a busy street you don't want to be opening the driver side door and standing there trying to pull out that infancy with the traffic behind you. You'd rather come around to the side-walk side be able to lift out the infant carrier onto the side walk and reach across to buckle in your toddler. So that's my recommendation about the best placement for your scecond child. If you have any trouble with the toddler, making a fuss about having to move their position in the car I often just tell the toddler You get to sit closer to mommy.
