I think every religion has some different way to get people to have a relationship with God, spirit, whatever you want to call it. For us, for my family, it’s through Roman Catholicism. I have so many friends in other faith traditions that try to make that connection with God, with their fellow human beings to find meaning in their life. So I think we’re all really struggling with that and it’s important to acknowledge that. I think we’re all trying to get to that same place. I think if your kids see that and see that you are in a routine that they will then look at that routine, question it I hope but then ultimately follow if not that routine another routine that gets them into a closer relationship with God. For me, my mom and dad went to mass every day. And I think even though a lot of people thought they were so-called “big shots” important people, they got on their knees every day and asked God for help. I think that’s important. Because they realized they weren’t in charge. They needed help every day. They needed guidance every day. They needed whatever God was giving them. And I think it’s important for a kid to see that. And I hope our kids pick that up as well. That even though they think their mom and dad are smart and in charge and maybe in control of things, they’re not. Because I don’t think we are. I think it’s important that the kids realize that. And if they get a better way to make that connection to God, I’m proud of them.
