Sleepovers can be really fun. They're a great rite of passage and I'm not the kind of mom who says no sleepovers ever. If you want to do that, that's fine. But if your kids are going to go on a sleepover there are some very important questions that you should ask yourself before you let your kid spend the night somewhere. Number one, does your kid know what to do if somebody tries to sneek into their bed or their sleeping bag? Are they confident enough to say, stop. Cut it out. Are they confident enough to call you in the middle of the night if they feel that, oh, oh, scared feeling. I'd also check it out with the parent. Who else is going to be at that sleepover besides your kid? Adults? Other siblings? Other kids sleeping over? You need to get as much information as possible. And do those parents have the same feelings about safety that I have? If they are a little more laxed or casual about safety than you are, you might want to think about, is my child really going to be safe there.
