My wife is an enormous support to me in assisting me in being a better father. It sounds cliché, but communication and teamwork is critical in raising a great kid. And with the advent of cell phones, when I would leave the office after a long day, I'd always call my wife and say that I was on my way home and we'd kind of catch up on what had happened during the day. And she would give me what I call a heads-up that there was an issue with one of the kids, or something that happened at school, or there'd been a bad grade in a class, or one of the kids really had a lot of anxiety about something. And it would give me the opportunity, as I was driving home, to come up with a reasonable response to the situation and to be able to really sit down with my son or daughter and engage them in what was troubling them. That heads-up was critical because my wife, unfortunately, had a knee-jerk reaction to whatever had occurred, but had the wherewithal and was able to set her ego aside enough to tell me what was happening, so that when I came home, when it did come up, I was ready for it. And being ready for an issue with one of your kids is really important. And that teamwork and that communication was critical, I think, and really being able to confront issues with my kids.
