You can help your kids deal with the challenges of life inside the home, an impending divorce, the loss of a job and moving to a smaller apartment versus the house, a move across the country, an illness, by taking a stance yourself. By saying to your kids, it's okay. I've got this. I know what I'm doing. I'm in charge here. You don't need worry about this.
I will make the decisions necessary to keep us safe, to keep us secure, to make sure you are happy and that you are provided for.
Now when we embrace that, when we own that attitude, it surrounds the children. So even if they're anxious, you have something that buffers that. You can bring them back in and say, I understand you're concerned. Of course you are. This is new. This is cary. We don't know where this is going. But I have this covered. I know what I'm doing. And that's all you need to know.
And oftentimes you can hear almost a palpable deep breath come from the child. That's really what they want to hear over and over again. Is it will be okay. I know what I'm doing.
