For kids who get colds and flus all the time. It is a very vexing problem for parents. You do not want keep taking them back to the pediatrician and give them antibiotics because that just kind of contributes to the cycle of getting well, getting sick again because the antibiotic ultimately does weaken your immune system. So what to do? The approach we take in Chinese medicine and particularly many kids who come into the office is that first and foremost we make sure that we clear whatever infection they have. So it could be that the child is suffering from a low grade infection that the antibiotic did not take care of and so that keeps relapsing. You have got to take care of whether it is a virus or bacteria or fungal infections or a parasite. We deal with it. So there are Chinese herbs that are very effective for that. And then, we look at allergies as a real big component to this because if you have regular, constant allergies, your sinus membranes are swollen, and it is constantly trapping bacteria and microogranism. So that could also precipitate colds and flus. But then, we also look at their immune system. The immune system of a child usually is not very strong because they have not had a lot of experience in fighting enemies like we are as adults. We have fought thousands of enemies. Now we have antibodies. They do not have the antibodies, so we need to build them up. So acupuncture stimulates immune function. Acupuncture is a balancing technique. So if the immune system is too low, we can bring it up. If it is too high such as in the case of autoimmune disease or inflammatory disease like eczema, we can bring it down. So we regulate. We modulate the immune system with acupuncture. And third, we look at the nutrition because digestion. If you have healthy digestion, you have a healthy immune system since most of your immune cells are in your gut. So we make sure. Probiotics is excellent to use. And all the other things to make sure they have healthy diet and good digestion will become a foundation for a healthy immune system.
