Preventative dentistry is basically keeping your child cavity free and keeping their smile healthy. Preventative dentistry consists of your dental visits every six months, excellent home oral hygiene, proper minerals such as calcium and fluoride for your teeth, and sealants, which are coverings for your back molars that can protect food and particles from getting into the grooves and fissures. Most cavities happen on the back teeth and sealants can prevent that from happening. Healthy snacking involves minimal sugar. We don't like intermittent snacking. What we recommend is that the child have a diet that is full of fruits, vegetables, and calcium rich snacks. You also want to stay away from sticky snacks, candy and anything that has a chance of getting stuck in the pesky grooves.
