My biggest challenge as a mom is figuring how to be the person I was before in my career in the same way now that I have kids. And I don’t know if I can do that. I mean, before kids I used to get a call the day before. “Hey, can you fill in for so-and-so tomorrow morning on the news.” “Sure, I’ll be there, no problem.” I’d be there at 5 a.m. Well now, I can’t do things like that because I don’t have a sitter to watch the girls at 3 a.m. when I have to leave. So things like that have proven to be issues for me recently. One of the ways I’ve started to deal with that is to share a baby sitter / nanny type with another family that lives in the area. So we have a little bit of flexibility with when she can watch our kids according to when each of us need child care. So that’s been helping a little bit. But one of the bigger issues that I’ve had to get over is simply knowing that it’s okay to say no. And when I first had children, the times that I had to say no to a last-minute meeting or a last-minute audition, it would really bother me. And I would get frustrated thinking, I don’t want my career to stall, so to speak because of kids. But that’s the reality now. That’s being a mother. And for my priorities, I want to be the mom for my kids. And knowing that it’s okay to say no, and that another opportunity will come up later. That’s something that I’ve been dealing with. And I’m getting better at it.
