It's really important to set boundaries at the office. There are two ways to do that.
One is through conversation and one is through your actions. The conversation can happen when you take a job. But if not, you can go to your boss or your colleagues and really say to them what you cannot do; set your boundaries. And what you can also let them know is what you can do when you are able to work overtime sometimes and what you would need to be able to do that.
The second part is in your actions. Once you've set your boundaries, stick to them. Don't hedge back and forth because people will be unclear about exactly what your boundaries are. Chances are, you will get tested, especially in the beginning.
Set those boundaries and stick to them with grace and you will get your family time.
