Alisa Donner: What would I tell a mom who’s thinking of starting an entrepreneurial endeavor? Well, passion is a good thing. And we need to feed ourselves. Feed our souls is what I mean, not just literally feed ourselves. So to plan it out as much as you can. We didn’t do that with Pregnancy Awareness Month. We just went with it. And saw all the things that needed to be done and organically it all unfolded. Some people would call that moving with the rhythm, being in the flow. And it was exhilarating and fun, exciting but it took a lot of time. And when I look back at it, if I were to be honest with you, I think I made some choices along the way that if I had the moment to go back and change, I would change them. I gave too much of myself, I believe in some cases, to start up, to do the extra work that needed to be done. When you have an entrepreneurial passion and you’re trying to start something, it’s brand new. It needs a lot. Like another baby. And I was in a situation where I had also worked full time. And in fact I still do. So I had 2 jobs. And one of them was a startup. It takes a lot of time. I don’t think women should take that much time away as much as what I did. But at the same time I’m really proud of what I’ve done and my daughter’s amazing. So it’s about your support, it’s about balance. I don’t know that I can advise on balance. I don’t know if I’m the poster child for balance. But I think it’s something we have to strive for. Probably all the time. That work, life balance is really important especially with the younger child.
