Getting back to work after you have a baby is one of the most challenging things that I have lived, or I guess I should say am living. My trick, because I work in television and entertainment, my trick for me during pregnancy was to not fall off the radar completely. Even though I wasn’t working full time when I was pregnant, I had to make sure that my contacts were kept up to date. I wanted to make sure that I kept up with all of my former colleagues, just to send an email or a little note or a phone call to say, “hey, how you doing? I’m looking to get back to work after pregnancy.” That sort of thing. Just to make sure people know you’re still out there, interested, and your brain is still wrapped around wanting to work after you have children. My trick was just to keep my contacts and build new ones at the same time, because through pregnancy and through motherhood a lot of times you make a lot of new contacts in your own field that you didn’t have before you had kids. So building your contacts and maintaining them is the most surefire way that worked for me to keep working after I had kids. Social media has propelled my career and expanded it in a way that I never even thought possible. And the funny thing was that I’m only on social media because I started my blog http://TheFabMom.com during my pregnancy to stay on the radar. And through social media, I’ve made more contacts, I’ve made more friends, I’ve expanded my audience, I’ve brought value to what I do as an entertainment professional. And that to me is incredible. Thank God for social media!
