When birthdays roll around, or the holidays, I think that a lot of families are concerned that other people are going to have issues with buying multiple gifts for their multiple children. What I usually say is that if someone had two children who had two birthdays at different times of the year, you would be buying them two different gifts. It's the same thing, you just happen to have one birthday. Early on, we would open the gifts and tell my kids that they were for both of them. As they've gotten older, they're more excited about birthdays and they know that something is specifically for them because they just have developed different interests. In that case, I just say it's really okay if people buy one gift for both, that's fine; my kids have learned how to share. And if they by separate gifts, then that's a lovely thing for them.
