Transcription:
Clomid is a medication that as it turns out is an anti-estrogen at the level of the pituitary gland. It causes the brain to produce a little more FHS, or follicle-stimulating hormone. And it therefore drives the brain to produce more than just one follicle in women that are normally ovulating. Or in those women that are not ovulating, it encourages them to actually ovulate an egg. Because it is an anti-estrogen, it can have ill effects. It can cause mood swings, irritability, in rare cases even visual changes. And in that situation, Clomid is never used again. The idea in this particular cycle is to enhance the number of eggs that are released. And in that scenario what you're doing is optimizing the likelihood of conception. But you're still using your facilities, if you would. The pelvis is still being used. And in patients that are optimized, that number, in an age-appropriate situation like a woman less than 30, would achieve a maximal rate of about 20% conception rate.
