The way to make the transition between marriage and divorce more comfortable for the kids is to have a schedule and to stick to the schedule. And if it’s one week on, one week off, so they know what to expect. But also not to make the time between seeing each parent too long. My ex-husband and I, whoever had the kids that week, the opposite parent would take them to dinner on Wednesday, or Thursday. So it breaks up the week and they don’t go too long without seeing you.
And having accessibility by phone, by email and so they know that it’s okay to contact the other parent, even though they’re on the other parent’s time.
