The timeline for these investigations varies depending on each case. Obviously law enforcers will take these cases very seriously, and will conduct their investigations as quickly as possible. But you also got to keep in mind that some of these cases have a lot of evidence that needs to be analyzed. In cases where there is biological evidence or DNA evidence, that evidence has to be collected and analyzed. Also, in cases involving digital evidence, where data can be stored on hard drives or computers, it may take a long time to forensically analyze those things. You combine that with the caseload for some major metropolitan centers, an investigation may take weeks, or months even to complete. But we definitely try to complete these investigations as quickly as possible.
