As I decided to adopt as a single parent I initially was doing a lot of research. My country, I’m native which is Germany, does not support nor allow on a legal level single adoption. But as I’m living for quite some time in the US that was not an issue for me. I was actually very positively surprised that the counties and the legal system in America is highly highly supportive of single parent adoption. I myself think single adoption is really really a magical thing because even if you are or should be in a relationship and something doesn’t work out the child is still yours. You are still able to grant for the sanity of that child. I meant if you want to move to a place where your biological family is your support system; if you want to go for a job opportunity to Australia you can take your child and go. Let’s say you divorced and you share custody with your partner, you are stuck wherever your partner is. So for me midway maybe I’m one of those parents who I think I pulled a lucky card. I have the most amazing, beautiful child and I enjoy to be 100% responsible for how she grows up and the kind of influences which will come in her life. For me it’s actually something which works very well.
