Open adoptions are very common these days.
For domestically placed babies, most of those adoptions are open adoptions in one form or another. Child welfare adoptions are already defacto open adoptions in the sense that the child already knows their birth parents or birth siblings, and may even have some contact with them after the placement.
International adoption is much less open. Although the trend today is for more and more families to visit the country of origin later on and to find more about the family, and perhaps, to meet the family themselves.
