When you use the sperm donor to get pregnant and you know this person, there's a lot of different arrangements you can make with that person. Some people have a sperm donor that wants to co-parent with you and you're gonna share this child and you're gonna share parenting and you have custody arrangements you need to make with the lawyer beforehand. If you want your known donor to be a friend but not a parent to your child, there are forms you can fill out. Let's say known donor waives parental rights. And, basically, what that's saying is that you're not gonna sue this man for child support. They're not gonna sue you for custody. And, the arrangement gets notarized. And, it also, after the birth of the child, it gets renewed and in a different document, and these documents are available on the internet. And, I was told that it's better to pay for the sperm, like with $1, than to have it for free because then it's seen as a transaction and it's legally more sound. So, that's what we did.

Naomi Hannah is a midwife who has worked in several birth settings: she has been a Doula, a Certified Professional Midwife, a labor and delivery nurse, and is now a Certified Nurse Midwife.
