When choosing a professional in our adoption, the first thing that we wanted to do was to determine whether we were looking for an infant to adopt or an older child, domestically or internationally. For us, we wanted to adopt an infant domestically and in somewhat of an accelerated time frame. So an attorney that could also act as a facilitator, someone who would help you with the match, was really the best choice for us. And then when we were looking at different attorneys, we obviously went through a process but we assessed cost and what each of the attorneys were asking us to budget as it relates to advertising and the matching fees and the legal costs. But I think the most important thing for us was looking for an attorney whose process really matched our emotional wellbeing and that of the birth parents. And there's a lot of attorneys out there that, not a lot, but there are some attorneys out there that will look for a match on both sides, maybe even prior to giving all the information and assessing all of it and there are others that will only match subsequent to that. And those are the best attorneys in my opinion.
