Given the complexity of adoption today, parents really need a good bit of education and preparation support in order to help their children to deal with adoption-related issues as well as to deal with some of the unique issues that they're facing as parents--helping their children to recover from the early adversity. One of the best predictors of adoptive parent satisfaction and healthy adoptive family life is good pre-placement preparation and the ability of accessible and affordable post-adoption services. It's the post-adoption services that is the real challenge in the field today because there are not adequate post-adoption services for most families.

David Brodzinsky is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Foster Care Counseling Project at Rutgers University. He also maintains an active private practice serving the clinical needs of children and families, including individuals who are part of the adoption triad. Brodzinsky has written and lectured extensively in the fields of developmental and clinical psychology and is an internationally known expert in the field of adoption. He is co-author of such well-known books as, The Psychology of Adoption, Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self, and Children's Adjustment to Adoption: Developmental and Clinical Issues.
